Q is for Quito

In 1999, we made our only foray into South America. Quito is the capital of Ecuador – and indeed, true to the name, one of the side trips we made was to the equatorial line. You can see me with a foot in each hemisphere below.

For the previous destination on this tour, see H is for Havana. Our ultimate destination was Galapagos, but that didn’t make it into the A to Z Challenge – it deserves a series all of its own*.

I have not made it to Quito, but the more I read about it, the more I want to go! Beautiful photos.

Thanks, Corinne. I hadn’t looked at these photos in years so have been loving the trips down memory lane.

My husband studied abroad in Ecuador and loved it. He had,if I remember correctly, some great meals in Quito.

As for the Galapagos – I think you have your theme for the 2015 A-Z Challenge.

Ooh now, could I match the wildlife to every letter? Not sure, but it’s an idea worth thinking about!

Great photos and love it that you are in both hemispheres! It must have been hot!

I don’t remember it being that particularly hot – I think because Quito is at quite a high altitude. Which brings other problems such as breathlessness….

What beautiful pictures. There are so many places in the world I would love to visit one day. 🙂

That looks great! Never knew a lot about it, but that part of the world would be fun to explore one day! Nice and unusual for Q:-)

Thanks, I don’t know much about South America either as that’s been our only trip so far. I’d like to explore more – and I’m grateful to that holiday for providing a Q which can be a tricky letter!

The buildings look amazing and nothing like they do in the western world. It would have been fun to stand in both hemispheres at once as well.

It was fun! Thanks for visiting – I’ll be heading across to see your blog shortly. It’s been a lovely day here, I’m just back from a long walk and I need a big mug of tea before settling down to some serious blog visiting!

How fun. Haven’t been to Quito. But we did get to put a foot on either side of the equator in Pontianak, Indonesia!

Lovely photos! Love the foot on each side of the equator, too. I’ve always wanted to visit Peru and see Machu Picchu and other Incan ruins.

Wow, what a short sweet post. I tend to be on the wordy side, maybe because I really want to share what I have to say, although feel bad for poor A-Z bloggers who may not be interested in reading all of it!

Apologies – just found this comment in spam! Have been a bit negligent over Easter. I’ve kept my A to Z posts deliberately short – though partly that’s because some of the pictures are quite old and I can’t remember much about them!
