Happy Christmas!

Edinburgh at Christmas
Edinburgh at Christmas

We’ve made a couple of trips over to Edinburgh in the last few weeks to visit art exhibitions, but also taking plenty of time to appreciate the sights and sounds of Christmas: the funfair, the market, the Street of Light.

This gallery is my Christmas card to you.

The last picture has nothing to do with Christmas at all: John snapped this tour bus coming up from Edinburgh’s New Town on one of our summer visits. I just love the composition and don’t want to waste it, so here it is!

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone! May 2017 bring us all hope and joy. See you then.

The Street of Light looks gorgeous. Reminds me of Luminarie in Kobe, Japan. (Not surprising since the archways were donated by Italy after the Kobe Earthquake.)

We spent ages waiting for it to pop out of the tunnel! The first time the picture was out of focus so we had to let it go round again. Hope you all have a great Christmas too and Choppy and Schooner are nice to each other.

There are Christmas miracles and then there are Christmas impossibilities. I’ll accept them leaving each other alone for Christmas and consider myself lucky!

We could do with some rain here, but I wouldn’t like the temperature to drop with it. It’s going to be 25 degrees here tomorrow – perfect.

    This looks so magical!
    Wrapping up the holidays….
Waiting for sunset on Christmas Eve is like standing toes-over-the-edge on a high diving board.
Every year we’d cruise casually by the window to keep an eye on the sun’s progress until it was officially evening.
Then the shout “Christmas Eve Gift!” would ring out.
You see, the traditions says that the first person to voice that phrase on Christmas Eve to another would be graced with good fortune and joy all the next year.
(And of course, whomever was first won. Everything was a contest…)
It’s more difficult to be first now with caller ID.
As all those who have become my friends in blogland are spread widely across time zones, I’d like to wish you all “Christmas Eve Gift” now.
And as I already feel so fortunate to have such wonderful readers and writers in this neighborhood, I wish to share any phrase acquired good fortune and joy with you in thanks.
No matter where you are or what you are guided by, hope you have a very merry Christmas and a new year full of adventure and joy.
Peace on earth and goodwill towards all creatures great and small.

Edinburgh definitely seems to be the winner in the Christmas lights contest. With the wheel and the spinning chair ride it makes Glasgow’s seem tame and sedate by comparison. I was through there myself recently. Wouldn’t be surprised if Edinburgh ends up Scotland’s largest city at some future date as they really pack the new buildings in tight and high level whereas Glasgow’s new houses seem scattered and low rise these days. Best wishes for a Happy New Year.

I confess I had a quick walk round the St Enoch’s market a few weeks ago but haven’t been near George Square. *Whispers* Edinburgh’s definitely better at Christmas.

Happy (belated) Christmas to you too! I narrowly missed seeing Edinburgh’s Christmas market a few years ago (they were setting it up when I was there, but it wasn’t open yet), so it’s nice to see it in action! The lights are very pretty too.

I like to walk through the market and look at the lights but it’s always horrendously busy so we don’t linger too long. It’s lovely but I get claustrophobic in the crowds.
